11/14/1990, One of the earliest mentions of gangs in Yakima I could find was an article in the Yakima Herald on November 14th, 1990. In the article it reported there had been five shootings in East Yakima that week, the latest was on November 13th, 1990 on the 400 block of South 7th Street. Three black youths associated with "East Side Mafia Crips" were fired upon by suspected members of the "14th Street Gang" which I'm guessing was a misidentification of the Nortenos XIV. Before that there had been various other shooting scenes in East Yakima targeting both side, the most serious was on November 11th, 1990 when a East Side Mafia Crip was grazed in the head by a bullet in front of the AM/PM store on Yakima Avenue. Yakima Police said the shooter yelled "2-1" before firing shots, in reference to the "21st Street Gang" in Toppenish, but I'm wondering if that was another misidentification of the Varrio Campo Vida 21 gang?
