SLAYING: Grandview woman’s death investigated
GRANDVIEW — Grandview police officers found a woman dead in her home after responding to a 911 call early Sunday Dec. 20 morning. Officers were called at about 4:30 a.m. to a home on the 200 block of Pleasant Avenue after a caller reported a body.
Investigators at the scene reportedly believed the “death was not accidental” and called for technicians from the Washington State Patrol Crime Lab in Spokane.
A police department news release said officers are “interviewing a person of interest.” No information about the identity of the victim, her age or how she died was released.

MURDER #25
YAKIMA, Wash. — A 24-year-old Yakima man was shot to death late Tuesday in Yakima, and police say illegal drugs may have been involved.
Two possible suspects were arrested, but investigators had to release them due to a lack of evidence, according to a news release from the Yakima Police Department.
Officers had responded to check on a report of gunfire in the area when they found the mortally wounded man about 11 p.m. in the yard of a home in the 1800 block of Greenway Street. The man, whose name was not released pending notification of relatives, had suffered gunshots to the neck and shoulder.
Officers took two possible suspects into custody in the 1700 block of South 14th Avenue, but they were later released, detectives said.
Police were looking for two men in their early 20s. They left the shooting scene in vehicles described as a black Chevrolet-type pickup and a black full-sized sport utility vehicle, according to the news release. The statement did not elaborate on the possible drug connection.

1st Yakima County of 2010...
TOPPENISH, Wash. — The man whose body was found today in a Lower Valley canal has been identified as 21-year-old Fernando Figueroa of Yakima.
Sheriff’s detectives say he may have suffered a gunshot wound. An autopsy will be conducted later this week.
Figueroa’s relatives, who had reported Figueroa missing less than two weeks ago, called the sheriff’s office this afternoon to report they had discovered a possible body in the canal near the intersection of Marion Drain and Campbell roads, Chief of Detectives Stew Graham said.
The body had been wrapped in black plastic before it was apparently dropped off a bridge at that location, Graham said.
Figueroa’s death is the first homicide reported in 2010 in Yakima County.
Anyone with information about the case may call the sheriff's office at 509-574-2500. Anonymous tips, with the possibility of a cash reward, may be reported to Crime Stoppers at 509-248-9980.

YAKIMA--The suspect in the city of Yakima's first homicide of 2010 is in police custody.
Acting on tips gathered Saturday, Yakima police arrested Bobby Ray Zapien late Saturday night at the Red Carpet Motel on Fruitvale Blvd.
The 37-year-old Zapien will be charged with first degree murder. Police believe he's the man who shot Yakima resident Luis Gonzalez, 32, in the head outside a home on the 1000 block of South 26th Avenue on Friday night.
Gonzalez died shortly before midnight Friday, about three hours after being shot.
Police were sent to 26th Avenue at around 8:20 p.m. There they found Gonzalez, 32, lying in the driveway of a home. He had been shot once in the head.
A witness told police he and Gonzalez were working on a car when a man approached and fired one shot.
Gonzalez was a known gang member, but police have not declared the shooting related to gang activity.
This is the first homicide in the city of Yakima in 2010 and the second in Yakima County.
